FIRST BAY-TO-BREAKERS:
It was in the Spring of 1984. Bob Ashworth built a huge Chinese sedan chair on which 16 bearers carried Michelle MEAT-PIE Chaboudy. I ran in front blowing a bugle with several other Hashers who had to push people out of the way. It was potentially a dangerous situation with us moving so fast. We completed the run in under one hour, which is incredible for 16 guys carrying a giant sedan chair on a 12K run up a steep hill. We were interviewed by television at the end; they asked us why we carrying MEAT-PIE and the vile answer that Tom Koger, a US Marine Major/pilot, gave was not suitable for prime time TV (it was too vile to print here).
RUN No. 1
It was on August 21, 1982 from my home in Fairfax. We had 19 Hashers, of whom only Kathy Collier, my son and I remain as active Hashers. David Barker (the 2nd Grandmaster) was also on it. Sue Shallow was on the second run, but not the first one. I moved here from NY in June 1981 and discovered the East Bay Hash that ran every third Sunday; it was more of a family-oriented Hash at that time. Three months later I started the SF Hash with Bob Fain. I do not where Bob Fain is now.
